Public Education and Outreach

The Public Education and Outreach Committee produces materials and information for anyone considering a basenji or learning about the breed for the first time. The aim is plain: connect prospective owners with responsible breeders and with accurate, breed-specific information.

What the Outreach Committee does

The best place to learn about basenjis beyond this website is from a responsible breeder. A good breeder will educate inquirers about the responsibilities of dog ownership in general and the specifics of basenji temperament, health, grooming, and exercise needs. A responsible breeder wants the relationship between a new family and a basenji to last, and will give honest information rather than a sales pitch.

The Outreach program guides and assists potential puppy buyers in finding responsible breeders. It also supplies materials for fairs, meet-the-breed events, classroom visits, club booths, and anywhere else people are curious about basenjis.
