Procedures
The Native Stock Project follows the AKC-approved procedure outlined in the document Procedures for Submitting Native Stock (PDF). Every Native Stock applicant must follow these procedures to be considered for Basenji Foundation Stock registration.
The full text of the original petition to the AKC that re-opened the Studbook is available for reference: Petition to Open the AKC Studbook to Native Stock Basenjis (PDF).
An application that does not follow the published procedures will not be advanced for evaluation.

Application and forms
Download, print, and complete the application form. Photo submissions are required as part of the application; the photo guidelines are linked below.
- Application for Submitting Native Stock (PDF) - the form to print out, complete, and mail.
- Photo Submission Guidelines - what photos are required, how they should be staged, and what makes a usable photograph.
Three evaluators are assigned to each candidate dog. The Native Stock chair mails each assigned evaluator their copy of the evaluation form and the guidelines for completion. Evaluators return their signed forms to the Native Stock chair by March 31.

Requirements for evaluators
An evaluator must meet the qualifications described in the Procedures document. There are three categories:
- AKC Judge Evaluator - approved by the AKC to judge basenjis.
- AKC Breeder-Judge Evaluator - an AKC Basenji-Breeder Judge whose credentials have been reviewed by the Native Stock Committee.
- Long-Time Basenji Breeder Evaluator - a long-tenured basenji breeder whose credentials have been reviewed by the Native Stock Committee.
The Long-Time Breeder list is not static; qualified breeders are welcome to volunteer. Read the BCOA Letter to Long-Time Basenji Breeders (PDF) for the details and contact the Native Stock chair if you would like to be added.

Evaluators
The Native Stock Committee maintains three rosters of approved evaluators:
- AKC Judge Evaluators - AKC judges approved to judge basenjis.
- AKC Breeder-Judge Evaluators - AKC Basenji-Breeder Judges whose credentials have been reviewed by the Native Stock Committee.
- Long-Time Basenji Breeder Evaluators - long-tenured basenji breeders whose credentials have been reviewed by the committee.
The current evaluator rosters are not published on the website. Contact the Native Stock Chairperson for the current lists by region and category. Applicants choose their own three evaluators from the rosters (one from each category); the chair mails each chosen evaluator the form and guidelines.
If you are a qualified long-time breeder and would like to be added to the evaluator pool, read the BCOA Letter to Long-Time Basenji Breeders (PDF) and contact the chair.
